I apologize for my early absence from the 4corners blog. My travels north were pretty much family visits. I didn’t want to bore everyone with non-riding stuff.
Ever changing technology
I’m learning the new, upgraded WordPress and all it’s nuances. The idea of posting from an iPhone is amazing and convent. But it’s somewhat cumbersome entering data with 1 finger for lengthy posts! I still have a laptop because of the need for Garmin Basecamp and GPS routing. Tonight JimmyV will show me how to post photos!
2021 Iron Butt Rally
Some of you are aware of my past motorcycle adventures. I’ve been a member of the Iron Butt Association since 2000 and have participated in the 2001, 2003 and 2005 Iron Butt Rally. I’ve mentioned this before but it’s worth reminding other riders, this is the famous motorcycle long-distance rally that competitors safely and strategically ride 1,000 miles a day for 11 days! While many hundreds apply only to top 100 riders are selected!
The 2021 Iron Butt Rally is running concurrent to our wonderings. It started in Provo, UT last Monday at 10 AM. Competitors scattered the four corners for bonuses as they ride to the 1st checkpoint in Indianapolis, IN. The 1st checkpoint window is today Thursday, June 24, 8pm – 10pm. Checkpoint 2 is in Alabama Sunday June 27. The rally ends July 2 back in Provo UT! It is not uncommon for the winner to ride 12,000 miles in the 11-day competition.
On our leg 2, San Ysidro CA to Key West FL I expect to see a few IBR competitors hunting for bonuses. Safe travels to all endurance competitors, I remember the amazing highs in achieving difficult bonuses and catastrophic lows in erroring during a bonus documentation. Truly, competing in the Iron Butt Rally is a life changing experience!

Dean, thanks for the update. I follow along not for all the riding stats, but for the vicarious adventure… And the pictures of all the glorious places you’ve been. You’re forgiven for not posting any pics yet seeing as you have some technology to catch up on.

I strongly recommend dictation on the iPhone, it’s super easy and once you figure it out, which takes about 10 seconds, you will never input using your fingers again. I’m dictating this right now and it’s coming out perfectly.
Thanks Tom. JimmyV and I were just going over voice audio input on the iPhone.
